Edith, a high-achieving investigative journalist in her 40s, chose to become a "solo mother" using an anonymous sperm donor, believing she could build a fulfilling life on her own terms. Now the mother of a five-year-old son, Sigurd, she finds herself increasingly worn down by the emotional weight of parenting alone. 

Her resolve begins to crumble when Sigurd starts asking questions about his absent father. This curiosity, coupled with Edith’s own obsession with identifying the genetic traits her son has inherited, leads her to a turning point. After a data leak or tip-off reveals the donor's identity, Edith discovers he is Niels (played by Herbert Nordrum), a successful and creative video game developer living nearby.
