Holló

A rövid dokumentumfilm egy jezidi festőről szól, aki 2014-ben megszökött az ISIS elől, és azóta egy duhoki táborban él. Habár rendszeresen kap fenyegetéseket telefonon, továbbra is megfesti traumatikus élményeit és a civilek szenvedéseit. A film bemutatja az ISIS által üldözött több ezer megtámadott jezidi elszomorító helyzetét, vallások megsemmisítését, valamint a művészet hatalmát, amely képes közösséget kovácsolni az emberekből és segíteni nekik halottaik elgyászolásában és a továbbélésben.

Megint elfelejtettem nefelejcset hozni

Az elsődleges célom az volt, hogy dokumentumfilmet készítsek a két nagymamám életéről. Egy éven át jártam hozzájuk, hogy lássam a mindennapjaikat, és beszélgessek velük a múltról. Ez idő során közelről megismertem őket, és rajtuk keresztül magamat. Meg akartam mutatni, mennyire más életük volt – az egyikük kulákcsaládból származott, akiket a szocializmusban üldöztek, a másik egy katonatiszthez ment férjhez, és élvezte a rendszerhűeknek kijáró kedvezményeket. A munka során azonban ráébredtem, tulajdonképpen mennyire hasonlítanak egymásra. A film az ő életüket, világukat és történetüket rekonstruálja családi archívumunkban talált fényképek és dokumentumok segítségével.

Az ő hangjuk

A film különös utazásra hív: egy hallássérült fiataloknak fenntartott bentlakásos iskola falai mögé rejtett titokzatos világot mutat be. Elénk tárja a fiatalok saját univerzumát, amelybe másoknak, a „normálisoknak” szinte esélyük sincs belépni. Csupán tapintatosan figyelve, egyetlen szó nélkül követjük az iskola mindennapjait egy éven át. Ahogy megértjük a szokásaikat, kézmozdulataikat és arckifejezéseiket, egy elfogadó, megértő és gondtalan ­– a külvilágtól mérhetetlenül különböző – környezetet ismerünk meg. A film segítségével megélhetjük a gyermekek érzéseit, megtapasztalhatjuk, hogyan látják a világot, és végül hallhatjuk a hangjukat is. A rendező lebontja a határokat a felnőttek és a gyermekek, siketek és hallók világa között.

Anya fegyverben

Mi Sue Pwint a Burmai Diákok Demokratikus Frontjának tagja – ez a diákhadsereg azután jött létre, hogy a myanmari katonai diktatúra 1988-ban brutálisan leverte az országos tiltakozásokat. Egy forradalmi vezető és anya rendhagyó története, aki ma aktív résztvevője a békefolyamatnak a konfliktusokkal terhelt országban.

Raven

Raven is a short documentary film about a Yazidi painter who escaped from ISIS in 2014 and lives in a camp in Duhok. He continues to paint the traumatic experiences of war despite being repeatedly threatened by phone for exposing the suffering of civilians. The film demonstrates the plight of the many thousand Yazidis who have been attacked by ISIS, the destruction of multiple religions, and the power of art to bring people together to mourn the dead and muster the strength to keep on living.

I Forgot to Bring Flower Again

My main goal was to make a documentary about the complex lives of my grandmothers. For a year I observed their everyday life and talked to them about the past. I came to know them intimately and learned a lot about myself. I wanted to show how different their lives were—one coming from a "kulak" family that was persecuted during the socialist times, the other married to a military man and enjoying the benefits bestowed on the loyal members of society. But I began to understand how much they really resembled each other. The film reconstructs their worlds and narratives using photographs and documents from family archives.

Their Voices

Experience the mysterious world hidden behind the walls of a Polish boarding school for young hearing-impaired students. The film introduces their universe with subtle observations and without a spoken word. Getting to know their habits, gestures and facial expressions we find an environment full of acceptance, understanding and airiness, so different from the world outside. The film allows us to share the children’s emotions, their visions of the world, and eventually, to hear their voices as communication barriers between the worlds of adults and children, and between the deaf and the hearing are transgressed.

Mother at Arms

Mi Sue Pwint is a member of the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front, the student army formed after nationwide protests were brutally crushed by Myanmar’s military dictatorship in 1988. This film tells her extraordinary story as both a leading revolutionary and a mother, and describes how she is now actively engaged in the peace process in her deeply conflicted country.
